The GOC is producing guidance to give clarity on when to disclose confidential information, including where patients may not be fit to drive. Draft guidance was developed and consulted on from March to June 2019, and covered the following:
- General principles of disclosing confidential information, with or without consent
- What to do when a patient may not be fit to drive as a result of their vision
- Other disclosures in the public interest
- Disclosing information in compliance with investigations
The consultation is now closed and the final report will be made available from the GOC consultation hub. The final guidance will be published here in December 2019 subject to approval.
